1 Introduction
Many aspects of switch-mode power supply design, including the control loop and filter design, is typically done in the frequency domain instead of the time domain. This lab serves as a refresher (or introduction) to working in the frequency domain.
All frequency domain measurements in this lab and future labs are taken with the Analog Discovery 2 board.
In the first part of the lab you are going to be measuring the impedance of capacitors and extracting the equivalent series resistance (ESR), which is an important parasitic circuit element in power electronics.
In the second part of the lab you are going to be characterizing a linear regulator based on the TL431 and developing a model from measured data that is used to determine what loads will cause the regulator to oscillate.
